My Statement as a Certified Credentialed Counselor
Prudence seeking and selecting a counselor or therapist , whether at a time of crisis or after, long careful thought with much discussion, is crucial. This is a statement about me, how I work and organizations which provide protection to the consumer seeking professional treatment for emotional problems. I ask that you read this page and freely discuss any of your questions with me, now, as we begin, or anytime thereafter.
You have entered my online office where I provide counseling and psychotherapy through this virtual medium. If you encounter problems with the technical aspects of viewing and participating here, please inform me before signing off, and I will endeavor to solve the problem.
If you live on the Oregon South Coast Bay Area and would like to schedule an appointment at my office, please contact me by calling 541.521.1255. If you live outside the area and wish to begin online counseling, please continue reading ~
Currently, I hold Oregon and Utah licenses, as a marriage and family therapist. In Oregon, I also hold a license as a Professional Counselor. The Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists publishes an annual directory of all currently licensed in Oregon to practice in this field. You can write the Board at 3218 Pringle Rd. SE, Suite 250, Salem, OR 97302-6312, or telephone them at 503.378.5499. Licensing requires that I participate in continuing education requirements, as adopted, ascribe to the Oregon Code. I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in educational Psychology from The University of Utah. These departments are respectively accredited by the American Psychological Association and The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, of which I was a clinical member for twenty-five years. I hold national certifications as a Master Addictions Counselor through NBCC and the NAADAC Certification Commission. I am a CADC III in Oregon. Since 1984, I have served on the Bay Area Hospital Courtesy Staff as an Allied Health Professional, as well as Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day, Oregon from 2004-2006. I have practiced for State Licensed Not-for-Profit agencies, serving people suffering with emotional, mental and/or addictive, compulsions, known as Co-Occurring Conditions which merit consultation and support by a Licensed or Qualified mental health professional. As a Certified Distance Counselor through NBCC's DCC, I offer an encryted distance counseling service over the Internet.
Counseling Philosophy
My core training is the theory of clinical counseling/psychotherapy and psychophyisology, including current use of evidence based practices, cognitive behavioral, and spiritual approches, such as Stages of Change, Relpase Prevention Therapy (RPT). I work with individuals, couples, groups, the family, and groups, including more than one family, offering opportunity for each to gain insight for changing feelings, thoughts, intentions and actions, based upon mutual respect for internal growth, human development, and motivation technique (MI) to enhance individual free choice. I STRIVE TO provide the highest quality confidential professional counseling and psychotherapy services through technology delivery methods such as asynchronous posting methods, synchronous digital chat, video-assisted counseling, group delivery methods, encryption technology/security stratigies and face-to-face.
By being here, you reflect a growing trend of people who, for one reason or more, are open to this new virtual form of counseling. For you, utilizing face-to-face counseling may have been a factor, or possibly will be at another juncture. This is where you are now and once you commit to contributing time and effort online, your journey will begin, or continue, the choice NOW is yours:
Pros and Cons of Online Counseling
Some pros and cons might help organize your choice to commit ~
Why?
-
You would have difficulty managing face-to-face counseling due to a busy schedule.
-
This provides you with a means 24/7, and is possibly more private than walking in to an office.
-
You have a disability, which is a barrier an online process solves, or fear, an online approach solves or addresses.
-
You feel such an approach is more private, safe and engaging, more efficient.
-
Views or other factors such as sexual desires, spiritual or religious conflicts may even require a less than traditional approach….”in this power - the student brings on his/her teacher”.
-
The availability of a therapist is insufficient; local options may be intimidating or embarrassing.
-
You’re not sure, but this is a start and you have in fact committed to yourself that Now Is The Time...To Thy Own Self Be True.
Why NOT?
-
You are not yet 18 years of age and to do so, you would have to misrepresent yourself.
-
Online counseling would represent another way of hiding or confusing the issue(s).
-
There is a crisis you need to face and local resources are present.
-
Severe and Persistent Mental Issues need face-to-face on-going resources, online services cannot address.
If you are in crisis, go to the phone and call 911.
