ALDEN L. MILLER, MS, LMFT, NCC, LPC, MAC, CADC III,DCC

Prudence seeking and selecting a counselor or therapist, whether at a time of crisis or after, long careful thought with much discussion, is crucial.  This is a statement about me, how I work, and organizations which provide protection to the consumer seeking professional treatment for emotional problems.  I ask that you read this page and freely discuss any of your questions with me, now, as we begin, or anytime thereafter.

Currently, I hold Oregon and Utah licenses, as a marriage and family therapist.  In Oregon, I also hold a license as a Professional Counselor. The Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists publishes an annual directory of all currently licensed in Oregon to practice in this field.  You can write the Board at 3218 Pringle Rd. SE, Suite 250, Salem, OR 97302-6312, or telephone them at (503) 378-5499.  Licensing requires that I participate in continuing education requirements, as adopted, ascribe to the Oregon Code.  I received a Bachelors of Science degree in psychology and a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology from The University of Utah.  These departments are respectively accredited by the American Psychological Association; The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, of which I was a clinical member for twenty-five years.  I hold national certifications as a Master Addictions Counselor through NBCC and the NAADAC Certification Commission.  I am a CADC III in Oregon.  Since 1984, I have served on the Bay Area Hospital Courtesy Staff as an Allied Health Professional, as well as Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day, Oregon from 2004-2006.  I have practiced for (State Licensed) not-for-profit settings serving people suffering with emotional/mental and/or addictive compulsions and co-occurring conditions which merit consultation and support by a Licensed or Qualified mental health professional.  As a Certified Distance Counselor through NBCC, I offer an encrypted distance counseling service over the Internet.

The law confers certain rights to consumers of counseling services, as follows: (1.) To expect that a licensee has met the minimal qualifications of training and experience required by state law; (2.) To examine public records maintained by the Board and to have the Board confirm credentials of a licensee; (3.) To obtain a copy of the Code of Ethics; (4.) To report complaints to the Board; (5.) To be informed of the cost of professional services before receiving the services; (6.) To be assured of privacy and confidentiality while receiving services as defined by rule and law, including the exceptions:  a) Reporting suspected child abuse,  b) Reporting imminent danger to client and others, c) Reporting information required in court proceedings or by client’s insurance company, or other relevant agencies, d) Providing information concerning licensee case consultation or supervision; and e) Defending claims brought by client against licensee; (7.)To be free from being the object of discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, or other unlawful category while receiving services.

Alden Miller's core training is the theory of clinical counseling and psychotherapy, including current use of evidenced based practices, cognitive behavioral and spiritual approaches, including Gorski Relpase Prevention Therapy (RPT).  I work with individuals, couples, groups, the family, and groups, including more than one family, offering opportunity for each to gain insight for changing feelings, thoughts, intentions and actions, based upon mutual respect for internal growth, human development, and motivation technique to enhance individual free choice.

For my services I receive an average of sixty-five dollars per clinical hour (which is a forty-five to sixty minute session).  If you authorize collateral contacts or written reports on your behalf, this hourly rate applies.  Any insurance coverage you have is a contract between you and your carrier.   Services are not provided upon the assumption that your insurance will cover my fee.  I will cooperate in the preparation of insurance forms and accept assignment once benefit coverage is confirmed.  A full fee is charged for any session not canceled by 6:00 PM on the business day preceding the scheduled appointment.  The content of all therapy sessions is absolutely confidential unless you provide the informed written consent to the contrary, or I become legally compelled to divulge the confidence, such as in matters of elder or child abuse, or when it becomes my professional judgment that you are at imminent risk of danger to yourself or another.  My practice includes private and contracted services, from time to time, as a Qualified Mental Health Professional in State licensed mental health settings, and as a Master Addiction Counselor (State Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III) in State licensed outpatient alcohol and drug services.
